PEER REVIEW IN TEAMWORKING – IS IT AN EFFECTIVE TOOL?
Abstract
This paper discusses one of the majorevaluation techniques used to aid communication andeffective teamworking in project teams taking part in theEuropean Project Semester (EPS) at the Ingeniørhøjskolen iKøbenhavn – University College, Denmark. Self and peerassessment is undertaken twice during the single semesterprogramme and its objective is to enable supervisors to takea proactive approach in helping their international projectteams to operate efficiently towards their goal of achieving asuccessful project outcome. To prepare today’s engineeringstudents for future careers in industry, it is crucial tointroduce them to teamwork and to work with internationallyformed groups. Industry today deals with complicated andlarge projects, which often require international cooperationand demands good communication skills and culturalawareness from future engineers. Within the EPSprogramme, the self and peer review process isacknowledged as an important tool in the achievement ofthis demand.Index Terms ⎯ Project Based Learning (PBL), peer review,teamwork.
