MULTIMEDIA AND WEBCASTING IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION: CASE STUDIES
Abstract
The paper presents case studies of usage ofmultimedia and webcasting in engineering education.Technology Enhanced Learning should not be veryexpensive, what is proved in the paper. According to Dale’sCone of Experience there is a big need of multimedia ineducation, also in the field of engineering. Multimedia in theform of podcasting (personal on demand broadcasting) canbe very useful as supplementary tool for lectures andsoftware training, but they have one common drawback –they do not allow for two way communication. Webcastingin which media file is distributed mainly live over Internetenables two way communication. Presented case studies aretaken from two subjects – Information Technologies andComputing in Civil Engineering. They include complete setof software animations and multimedia lectures. Webcastsare used for two purposes - fully online lectures in theInternet, when students can ask a question like duringclassical lecture and consultations.Index Terms ⎯ CMS, multimedia, podcasting, slidecasting, webcasting.
