ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION

Abstract

The role of Science, engineering andtechnology is examined in the 21 st century as globalizationof the world economy is getting the world’s attention. Thispaper proposes the introduction of entrepreneurial mindsetinto engineering students’ curriculum. Equipping thestudents with entrepreneurial mindset prepares thegraduates to readily contribute to transforming andcatalyzing and actualizing the work force. They should beequipped with strong skills and entrepreneurial educationenvironment which can be put to test after graduation. Therole of future engineers in the profession is reviewed withregards to transforming ordinary students to technicalleaders equipped with technical/entrepreneurial mindsetready to change the world with revolutionary and innovativeideas. The paper presents what entrepreneurial mindsetactually means, the way to teach/assess that students haveacquired it. Fundamentals of entrepreneurial mindset usingthe analytical technique: synthesis, creativity and innovationand finally, designing for commercialization will bepresented and discussed.Key words - Curriculum, Entrepreneurship, Engineering,Education.
