Abstract


In medieval times stained glass worked as anillustrated bible to an illiterate society. In the twentiethcentury, with the development of science and technologyglass became even more versatile widely spread andinsuperable from our society. Today we see an increase inthe materialization of art. The development of technologyand art techniques is closely linked with scientificdevelopment and with cultural relationships between people.Today’s stained-glass has got a new status, a newcommunicative impact that assures its own place incontemporary art. Stained-glass isn’t confined to sacredplaces any more; it works in public places such as courthouses and hotels. The message is essentially aesthetic, insome cases creating an atmosphere and adding value to theplace, in others, providing enjoyment of the art and in thesesituations stained-glass is exhibited independent of thearchitecture and seen as a work of art in itself.Index Terms - contemporary stained glass, architecturalglass, public places.
