DESIGNS WITH TRADITIONAL INFLUENCE IN CONTEMPORARY TURKISH CERAMIC ART

Abstract

The art of ceramic which has a deep rooted pastin Anatolia includes three main development processesnamely Seljuk, Ottoman and Republican Periods. From theSeljuki era until the end of Ottoman era, the traditional artof ceramic and tiles have displayed unique characteristics.The effect of the period of change emerging subsequent tothe proclamation of the Republic was felt in the art ofceramic like in all areas. The art of Ceramic modernizedwith new interpretations using the cultural heritage it hasacquired from Anatolia. Nowadays in Turkey, the art ofCeramic has the importance it deserves and is continuing todevelop by embracing traditional values. Many ceramicartists display modern ceramic work of arts with traditionalinfluence.
