SYNTHESIS OF PHYSICS AND ARTS

Abstract

In sixties of the last century a seriousdiscussion took place in the former Soviet Union:“Physicists or Lyriicists?â€. It seemed that the impressivesuccesses of science and technology moved aside arts andliterature. However, this very period is known as the cradleof so called “Physical Art†born at the Faculty of Physics inMoscow State University. The birthday of Archimedes as aspecial festival was instituted and celebrated in May everyyear with a solemn and rather comical presentation on thefootsteps at the entrance to the Faculty of Physics. Theinvited guests of the presentation were Niels Bohr, LevLandau, William Shockley and other prominent physicists ofthe world scale. An opera “Archimedes†was composed byphysicists and presented in the course of these events.Besides, the Faculty of Physics is known thanks to its bardicpoetry.
