Abstract


Currently, the production and dissemination ofinformation increases exponentially; however, the rhythm ofurban life and the proliferation of fragmented knowledgereduce the time that people devote to each topic of interest.In this context, it is no longer the individual who needs tolook for a given information. Immersed in an ocean of data,the desired information will be processed only if it has thepotential to draw the attention of the reader. To ensureeffective and comprehensive communication, the languageemployed should be simple and the presentation must beattractive. Here we propose the Cordel literature as aninformation vehicle. As an example, we present some of theCordéis Joseenses developed from historical facts andjournalistic accounts, also mentioning the initiative of theUnited Nations Development Programme (UNDP Brazil),with the proposal of promoting the main results of its latestHuman Development Report through Cordel pamphlets.Index Terms ⎯ history, information vehicle, pamphletliterature, popular culture.
