A PRESERVAÇÃO DA MEMÓRIA DAS CIDADES NA CONTEMPORANEIDADE: ANÃLISE DO PATRIMÔNIO EDIFICADO E IMATERIAL DA PRAÇA TIRADENTES, CORAÇÃO DE OURO PRETO – MG

Abstract

The main proposal of this paper is the analysisof the material and intangible heritage of Praça Tiradentesin Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Such an object ofinvestigation presupposes that cities have spaces endowedwith meaning and symbolic value, representing places ofmemory and history to the inhabitants. That is, places wherepeople live their daily routines or, on the contrary, placesthat only have meaning because of the testimony of peoplewho experienced them in the past. Then, one of the keyaspects in the life of a city is the collection of memories thatstem from it. Therefore, protecting memory means protectingthe past, present and future. So, one can say that the mainproposal of this study refers to a reflection about theimportance of preserving the memory of cities, nowadays,as a means of preserving the cultural and artisticcommunication it represents.Index Terms ⎯ Cultural and artistic communication,memory of cities, material and intangible heritage.
