Abstract


Pottery is an ancient art, which hasconsiderable tradition in relation to processes of enameling.One of the oldest methods used by potters Oriental is theglazing from the ashes of plants and wood, which alone ortogether with some types of minerals, can turn into a glazewith its own characteristics and effects for amazing andrarity of color, which differentiates them from glaze madewith chemicals. The aim of this study is to researchprocedures in obtaining ceramic glazes from the ashes ofplants, emphasizing the recovery and adaptation of thistechnique in Brazil, and evidencing the importance of atraditional art in contemporary society. Its relevance in theenvironmental issue is due to the reuse of waste generatedfrom prunings of different species of plants that can betransformed by the fire and used in producing these glazes.Index Terms ⎯ Agronomical waste, Ceramics glezes.
