ARTWEAR: galeria ou passarela?

Abstract

Fashion and art are closely linked. Although the interpenetration of the two fields is evident, it also causes friction as some still defend the existence of clear boundaries between them. Arts have long been using the "language of fashion" to express, through wearable forms, their aesthetic ideas. Artwear, a recognized manifestation of contemporary art, has been represented in museums which have acquired their first pieces of wearable art in mid-20th century and keep on collecting, yet more actively, since the beginning of the 1990s. Within its walls, the museum sessions devoted to the fine arts renew a territory of contention between those fields, perhaps because it seems common to both artistic manifestations.
