Abstract

Based in the cultural-historical theory, thisresearch investigated if the game can be constituted as apedagogical tool which is able to promote the constructionof educational concepts and the development of cognitiveabilities in the children from Elementary School I. To do so,four students aged 10 years old, from the fifth grade of basicschooling, from public school, played two games amongthem and with the researcher. The results showed that thesechildren, by playing with the support of an interventionwhich considers the previews knowledge and abilities fromthe individual, even those students considered as “weak†bythe school, were able to construct scientific concepts andcould insert them in a new conceptual structure, furthermorethey have developed cognitive abilities. Thus the presentstudy demonstrates that the game can be an importantmodality in the process of students’ learning-development tomake a productive and proficient interaction possible.Index Terms ⎯ Learning-development process, game,cultural-historical theory.
