USE OF SisBAHIA SOFTWARE IN ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING OF WATER RESOURCES FROM THE INDUSTRIAL POLE OF BARCARENA-PA
Abstract
The presence of potentially toxic elements is responsible for adverse effects on the environment, with repercussions on the economy and public health. The introduction of toxic elements in aquatic systems occurs through geochemical processes, weathering and the contribution attributed to human activity is a reflection of its extensive use by industry. In the industrial area of Barcarena a number of large companies settled in the last decades especially in the aluminium industry and kaolin. The ecological consequences of this production are well known: the devastation of the land for mining, encroachment of large areas for building local places to disposal of red mud tailings of kaolin, pollution of surface and groundwater. This work will be aimed to provide the environmental monitoring by means of hydrodynamic models of the SisBAHIA software of the basin that bathes the industrial pole of Barcarena after the spill occurred in 2009.
