Abstract

The practice of activities of daily living encounter in various unstable surfaces. Therefore, it is necessary that adjustment of the musculoskeletal system such conditions. The present study aims to investigate the body balance response in their biomechanical aspects on an unstable surface. The unstable surface was created using a balance board generally adopted by physiotherapists for treatment of patients in rehabilitation. The experiments were performed with bare feet and tennis shoes. Biomechanical parameters such as oscillation period in anterior to posterior direction, lower limb joint angles and muscle activity during simulation of instability were analyzed. The sample was selected 12 university volunteers aged 25.7 ± 4.3 years, weight 55.7 ± 7.0 kg and height of 1.6 ± 0.1 m. The results showed a significant difference in joint angles and muscle activities, especially in the posterior oscillation between two conditions evaluated.
