CONHECIMENTO DOS CIRURGIÕES DENTISTAS E AUXILIARES SOBRE A IMPORTÂNCIA DA IMUNIZAÇÃO NA PRÁTICA PROFISSIONAL

Maria Christina M. Rink, Ananias F. De Andrade Júnior, Fernanda Cecílio Dias

Abstract

The dentistry clinic is an environment
that has potential contamination for both the
dentist and his assistants. One of the most
common diseases among dentists is hepatitis B
due to its high virulence and resistance. This
paper raises data among dentists and their
assistants about their knowledge on immunization.
Questionnaires were provided equally to dentists
and assistants. The results show that 75 % of the
total participants of the poll had their vaccination
records. The poll also showed that 60 % of the
dentists and 54% of the assistants are aware of
the fact that the vaccine for hepatitis B is free and
available for professionals related to dentistry.
The final results suggest that the professionals of
the dentistry sector don’t have a solid knowledge
about immunization and therefore can put at risk
not only their own health but also their patients’
as well.
