Abstract

A key element of sustainability is the prudentuse of natural resources. This means using non-renewableresources efficiently and developing alternatives to replacethem in the future, while using renewable resources in waysthat do not endanger the resource or cause pollution. It isknown that oil-based cooling is one of the mostunsustainable elements of machining processes. The effect ofcutting fluids on the environment is widely recognized byusers of machine tools, particularly with regard to theirdegradation and ultimate disposal as a major problem.Faced with this problem this article seeks to define therequirements and restrictions of water resulting from theeffluent treatment of cutting fluids, so that this can be reusedin the machine tools.Key words ⎯ Cutting fluids, Water reuse, Treatment ofeffluents, Chemical analyses, Microbiological analyses.
