Abstract

The major concern of the XXI century is theenvironmental issue, which has rethought how society shouldbe aware of the need for change. In this context, theUniversity has a key role in shaping the individual inrelation to awareness of this problem and thus, we, asteachers, can offer work to awaken the social responsibility.The aim of this paper is analyze and discuss theinterdisciplinary aspects related to the development of abasic scientific research developed by a student of IndustrialEngineering, which deals with waste collection in aneducation institution and the implications that this researchwas the formation of these students. The findings showedthat throughout development the student solved the problemof garbage collection route optimization and he was able torealize the importance and impact of this work brought tothe institution.Key words - Industrial Engineering.
