COMPETENCIAS PARA LOS FUTUROS PROFESIONALES DE LA INGENIERÃA Y CONSIDERACIONES PARA SU IMPLEMENTACIÓN

Abstract


There is increasing evidence today thatprofessionals in any field will need in the near future refinedcapacities to accomplish successfully their assigned tasks.These capacities have been carefully investigated in recentyears and become to be known ultimately as competences.Professional associations, university experts, accreditationagencies, and others have deepened their analysis andpublished relevant conclusions on the need for, and thedetails of, competences indispensable to professionals forthe coming future. The present article reviews some of themost significant proposals, primarily those related to theengineering field. It covers first the so called genericcompetences, which are those common to severalprofessions. Then, it expands the analysis to present usefulguidelines for the implementation of an educational model ina university envisioned to attain a definite set ofindispensable competences the student must acquire and theoutgoing graduate must excel.Index Terms ⎯ Competences, capacities, engineerseducation.
