COMPUTATIONAL EFFICIENCY IN THE USE OF SCILAB IN METHODS APPLIED TO ENGINEERING: A CASE STUDY IN ANALOG ELECTRONIC FILTERS
Abstract
Many projects related to area of computerscience to engineering are commonly developed proprietarysoftware such as MATLAB TM. However, the softwareScilab TM also shows up as a powerful computational tool forteaching, as well as MATLAB TM, uses matrix methods as abasis for carrying out scientific calculations, Scilab TM hasthe advantage of being a free platform that facilitates thedevelopment of teaching and research without highinvestments to acquire the software. This paper aims to showthe efficiency of tool use Scilab TM as free software to supportlearning and research in various scientific fields applied toengineering, and specifically, to make analysis of analogelectronic filters applied to noisy signals usingapproximations Butterwoth and Chebyshev type I, obtainingthe results in both time domain and frequency domain usingFast Fourier Transform.Index Terms ⎯ Analog Electronic Filters, Butterwoth,Chebyshev Type I, Scilab’s Applications.
