Abstract

This paper presents a new parameterizationtechnique to the continuation power flow that allows thecomplete tracing of P-V curves and the computation of themaximum loading point of a power system, without illconditioningproblems of Jacobian matrix. The objective isto present, in a clear and didactic way, the steps involved inthe development of a geometrical parameterizationtechnique from the observation of the geometrical behaviorof power flow solutions. The Jacobian matrix singularity isovercome by the addition of a line equation, which passesthrough a point in the plane determined by the angle or busvoltage and loading factor variables. The tests are doneconsidering various limits of reactive power on the samesystem. The results obtained with the new methodology forthe system 3 buses, show that the characteristics of theconventional method are enhanced and the region ofconvergence around the singular solution is enlarged.
