Vascular-Haptic Interaction: A Student Project Case Study in Computer Graphics

Susan L. Gordon, James Wolfer

Abstract

Projects form an important component of manycomputer graphics classes, providing a platform for studentexperimentation and creativity. This work profiles one suchproject, implemented in the context of an introductorycomputer graphics course open to senior undergraduate aswell as graduate students. Specifically, we describe theimplementation of a custom graphics application for thehaptic exploration of vascular morphology based on polygonmodels derived from computed tomography data. Includedin the discussion is a description of the tools, both opensourceand proprietary, the user interface, and the relevanceof the resulting project to the course objectives.
