HOSTING THE UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING EXPO

Abstract


Science fairs are a popular way for students todisplay science and engineering projects. In Ohio studentscan advance through their school fairs to district sciencefairs and then on to the State Science Day in early May. TheUniversity of Cincinnati (UC) has hosted one of the districtscience fairs since 2005 - the UC Science and EngineeringExpo (UCSEE). The University hosts between 300 and 400student projects at this event on a Saturday in March. Theday itself includes the training of the 200+ judges, the actualjudging, activities for the students’ families and friends, andculminates with a guest speaker and an awards ceremony.The students compete for prizes and scholarships worthapproximately 50k US$ and over 100 of the UCSEE projectstypically advance to participate in State Science Day withsome top projects sent directly to the International Scienceand Engineering Fair.
