Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present a research which can be considered part of the studies for the “New Cultural Historyâ€. Our main objective is to show the study of a fairly contemporary document, within the period between 1983 and 1999. This documentation is found in the “Divisão de Comunicação Social†(Social Communication Division – DCS) in the public archives of the state of São Paulo. This documentation refers to the sector of vigilance of the people (DEOPS – Social Political Order Department) which should have been extinct at the end of our Military Regime (1964 – 1985), but remained active with a different denomination (DCS), after its closure in 1983, for over 16 years. The study of this document allows us to penetrate the authoritative mentality that still underlies times of established democracy in our country.
