DIÃLOGO ENTRE O PASSADO E O PRESENTE

Abstract

This article searches the dialogue between past and present through a historical survey of Mercearia Godinho. The building has conserved traces of the local social history in the environment, becoming an important heritage to the cultural history and memory of São Paulo. The grocery represents the values and the influences that shaped the society and its transformation to the present. It is in historical buildings and through the memory they portray that we can rescue the cultural identity of a society, which is made of representations and feelings of oneself and self experiences. These connections have passed on through generations, form collective memories allowing a space-time communication, contributing to the value and preservation of historical heritage, genuine records from men of yore.
