Abstract

Text reading and understanding includesseveral interrelated and interdependent cognitive processes.During the reading process, the recognition andinterpretation of written or printed words are not sufficientfor the construction of the global meaning of the text. Globalunderstanding of the text requires cognitive processes suchas the ability to make inferences, general language skillsand memory skills which together offer the construction ofrepresentation of the text. Considering the various processesinvolved in skilled and motivated reading, this researchaims: -To check the existence of a visual pattern based onfixations and eye movements related to the paths provided inmodels; -To investigate the possible relationships offixations/eye movements and reading time with theunderstanding of printed and manuscript texts. Thus, withinthe paradigm of information processing, the aim is tocontribute to the advancement of theoretical knowledge andreading assessment of ancient texts with contemporary eyes.
