PROCESSOS PIROPLÃSTICOS NA REALIZAÇÃO ESCULTÓRICA A ARDÓSIA PIRO-EXPANDIDA
Abstract
Slate (black shale) transformed by pyro plastic processes, named pyro expanded slate, is presented in this work as a plastic material. Based on the knowledge from Geology slate’s behavior, when submitted to temperatures between 1000ºC and 1240ºC, was studied. Submitted to pyro plastic process, slate expands four times its volume and shows its original composition and the process of its geological formation with an intense expressiveness that surprise us. This work also presents some technical possibilities of pyro expanded slate conformation, based on the reaction of different slate pieces during the pyro plastic process, and with other materials pieces participation, such as iron and, ceramic. These interactions, while associating different materials that react with each other, emphasize the dramatic characteristics of new sculptural compositions, increasing the plastic capacities of this material. A relationship between art and science is established with the research and use of new techniques and materials.
