Abstract

This paper aims to show some results of our ongoing PhD research, developed at University of São Paulo (Brazil), with financial support from the Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo (FAPESP). Our investigation is concerned with the problems of “fait diversâ€, a term that dates back to the press of the nineteenth century, which means the news that do not fit the traditional editorial journalism, like politics, economy, culture, international, etc. In summary, they are unusual journalistic accounts, whose theme binds to the idea of monstrosity, in general, in the private sphere. We analyze and theorize the “fait divers†from the theoretical perspective of tensive semiotics, one of the recent developments of FrenchSemiotics. This theory prioritizes the issue of sensitive in the process of production meaning, which governs the intelligible.

Keywords - French Semiotics, “fait diversâ€, meaning.
