ANALYSIS OF METEO-OCEANOGRAPHIC DATA OF PNBOIA PROGRAM OFF THE COAST OF SÃO PAULO STATE (SP, BRAZIL)

Joseph Harari

Abstract

The National Program of Buoys (Programa Nacional de Bóias) – PNBOIA - is a network of drifting and anchored buoys off the Brazilian coastal region, tracked by satellites, that aims to provide meteorological and oceanographic data in real time to the scientific community. In the present study data of the meteo-oceanographic buoy maintained by PNBOIA off Santos (Sao Paulo State, SP) were processed. The data were edited, with representation in graphical form, and submitted to statistical analyses. Results of two monthly series with 744 hourly data each, relative to January and May 2012, are here presented. The data set proved to be very useful for many scientific and technical purposes, such as ocean monitoring and modeling.

Index Terms - meteo-oceanographic buoys, ocean monitoring, wind and wave data.
