A PROPOSAL FOR A DATA BANK ON CONTAMINATED, GROUND SITE CONDITIONS FOR URBAN PLANNING

Auro Tanaka, Jefferson Guedes Bondiol

Abstract

The environmental problem related to mitigation and clean up of polluted and/or contaminated areas with hazardous waste residues is one of the difficult issues that state and municipal administrations have been dealing with over the last fifty years. The reason is that former unoccupied urban sites and inner ground areas of industrial enterprises were improperly used for dumping on ground soil and/or simply burying into soil hazardous waste residues of their activities. Based on existing data on soil ground and contaminated area (CA) conditions made available by the Company of Technology for Sanitary Environmental (CETESB) for most municipalities of the São Paulo state, it was found appropriated to start with those extensive raw spread list of information on CA sites in a data bank, which can be valuable tool guide for municipal administrators to conduct their plan of land use and management.

Key words - hazardous wastes, contaminated areas, groundwater, soil pollution, data bank, planning and management of land use.
