Abstract


This paper address to analyze the steel industrywith respect to environmental and macroeconomic issues.The steel industry in Brazil has outstanding characteristics:the iron ore mining over huge areas and a number of largeand mini mills. The environment impacts are obvious, suchas the iron ore mining itself, ore transportation crossinglarge distance and mills facilities inside or close to cities. Allmills require as input substantial energy and water andrelease several different pollutants which require accuratemanagement. To perform this study it was analyzed astatistic linear regression with Gross Domestic Product(GDP) and steel production and this highlight how theeconomic development increase pollution and make clearthe importance in environment investment.Index Terms ⎯ Steel Industry, Environment, GrossDomestic Product, Linear Regression.
