Abstract

This paper explains how Industrial Engineeringstudents integrate knowledge about business sustainability intheir curricula using a research project developed in Institutode Industria (IDEI). This investigation supports the principlesand practices of total quality management as having a positiveimpact on the achievement of a sustainable organizationaldevelopment process. We expound upon the concept ofsustainable organizational development associated to totalquality in lectures. In this way, the classroom strategyencourages students to associate technical concepts such astotal quality management to abstract concepts like businesssustainability, involving social, economic, and environmentalaspects into a company. The professors responsible for thisteaching are also those who conduct the research in thesecontent areas.Index Terms ⎯ total quality, sustainable organizationaldevelopment, research-classroom-interaction.
