Abstract

The task of mobile robot navigation can beunderstood as a problem of determining the trajectories withthe aim of providing conditions that allow the execution oftasks. One type of problem that has attracted attention fromscientific community is the autonomous navigation: theproblems where the agent is who determines its trajectory inan unknown environment. The interdisciplinary, from areassuch as computer graphics, artificial intelligence andrelated ones, assists in learning and development ofknowledge in technology. In this paper we describe anexperiment involving autonomous navigation of robots, using the model NXT robotics kit from Lego Mindstorms, widely used in educational robotics. Through mechanisms ofcomputer vision, environmental characteristics aretransmitted to the robot so that decision can be taken. Thispaper explores the possibility of using teaching kits for thetreatment of problems of engineering and computing thatstudents may encounter in their future professional life.Index Terms ⎯ Autonomous navigation, Lego Mindstorms,Teaching Engineering and computation.
