Abstract

This work presents the Online Writing PracticeCourse, which was developed for undergraduate students ofCivil, Chemical and Environmental Engineering at CentroUniversitário do Leste de Minas Gerais. The course aims toimprove reading and writing skills. The need for it was madeclear by the students’ shortcomings in writing their seniorresearch assignments. Students who take the course use theMoodle platform with methodology specially developed fordistance education with the possibility of teacher assistance.Students write several kinds of texts and do exercises inspecific problems of vocabulary and grammar. The coursealso encourages students to broaden their horizons, sincethey are expected to use virtual libraries, videos, museums,art galleries, periodicals and social networks.Index Terms ⎯ online text, online writing, Portuguese,engineer, language development in engineering.
