Abstract

In recent years, the modern technology ischanging the engineer's work. The engineer must know howto use the computer in a conscious manner to design andanalyze structures. The students should be able to designstructures, estimate the dimensions, make models, analyzeand verify the computer results. The scope of this work isshow how to teach the fundamentals of structural design.The concept of dialogical learning can be used in a practicalclass. Questions are made to stimulate the dialog. Thisteaching method is being practiced in Civil EngineeringCourse at Polytechnic School of the Federal University ofRio de Janeiro with great success both in practical classesas in the final course projects.
