ESP IN MARINE EDUCATION
Abstract
In world marine industry (at least inEurope) nowadays we identify a big shortage ofmarine officers. On the other hand, today Russia stillholds a world leading position in coining wellqualifiedseafarers who are in a great demand all overthe world. They meet all requirements but one, i.e.their English rather often is not sufficient enough.In the Report I would like to share the experience ofrunning ESP (English for Specific Purposes) coursesfor marine officers at Baltic Center of EngineeringPedagogy in Kaliningrad, Russia. The Centeradministratively functions within the structure of theBaltic Maritime Academy, which trains marineengineers, navigators, refrigeration and radioengineers for both Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleet.Index Terms ⎯ teaching, learning, language, method,specific purpose.
