PROFESSION-ORIENTED FOREIGN LANGUAGE TRAINING IN RUSSIAN ENGINEERING UNIVERSITY
Abstract
The main challenge for Russian engineeringeducation right now is to train competitive specialists,engineers with set of skills and scope of professionalcompetences that would satisfy industry demands and berecognized worldwide. Integration into world engineeringeducation and labor market transfers engineeringeducational programs into internationalized making foreignlanguage skills a must for future engineers’ career success.An important aspect of professional competence –communicative competence in foreign languages hasmodified dramatically according to the needs claimed, thusprofession-oriented training in foreign languages is toreplace academic-oriented one. The article represents theexperience of National Research Tomsk polytechnicuniversity, Russia, in foreign language education.Profession-oriented foreign language training model`implementation is discussed, its organization and contentspecifically designed to develop engineering and criticalthinking as a part of engineering profession thus teachingstudents from the first year on to use foreign language as ameans to solve profession oriented tasks.Index Terms ⎯ foreign language, profession-orientedtraining.
