DEVELOPMENT OF TWO NEW COURSES IN THE MODIFICATION OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY CURRICULUM

Abstract


This paper describes the introduction of twonew courses in the area of the project management andethics used by both Computer and ElectronicsEngineering Technology programs at Texas SouthernUniversity. These introductory courses are offered in thefirst and second semesters for both programs as part ofcontinuous improvement and curriculum modification.The main emphasis of this paper is devoted to the processof assessment and curriculum development. It also showshow assessment data were obtained and analyzed.Finally, it demonstrates how the feedbacks from analyzeddata were utilized to enhance or modify either course orprogram’s educational objectives and outcomes. In orderto establish an efficient assessment method, a two-tierprocess was developed. The first tier was courseembedded,while the second tier was implemented at thecurriculum level. The two-tier process provided a systemof on-going evaluation and continuous improvement ofthe program.Index Terms - assessment, curriculum, development, newcourses.
