“PRA FRENTE BRASIL”: CINEMA, FUTEBOL E POLÍTICA

Abstract


Launched in 1982, “Pra Frente Brasil” is afiction film that was made to denounce the violence of thepolitical repression during the military dictatorship thatbegan in Brazil in 1964. Its production was part of thecultural and political resistance movement, which createdbiographies, reports and films giving information aboutBrazilian political life during that time. The film plot is setat the same time as the 1970 Football World Cup and aimsto show the actions of the army and police against the leftwinggroups who start armed rebellions. Actual scenesfrom the football games are woven into the characters’actions giving more reality to the work. The passion andcelebration of the Brazilian supporters during the gamesare shown with indifference in face of the politicalproblems as if the citizens were accepting the dictatorship.
