Abstract

EDM was introduced in the industry for fewdecades, being actually applied in traditional manufacturingprocesses such as milling, drilling or turning. However, itstill present some lacks on fundamental understanding of theprocess that allow the optimization of the parameters ofEDM in industrial applications. This has been themotivation of many research studies which are focused onthe material removal mechanism, in order to identify themain parameters to improve the surface finish, increase thetools life and the material removal rate. This work is focusedin the plasma interaction analysis with the work piece’smaterial. The results and discussions were based on thesurface morphology obtained by EDM single discharge. Theexperimental development consisted in the design, manufacture and assembly of a singular discharger analyzermachine tool with an ultra-precise numerical control tomaintain the majority operational parameters invariable, where only the electrical discharge circuit is changed.Index Terms ⎯ Craters morphology, EDM, Singledischarge
