CERTIFICAÇÃO E ETIQUETAGEM COMO MECANISMOS DE PROMOÇÃO DA EFICIÊNCIA ENERGÉTICA EM EDIFICAÇÕES COMERCIAIS

Abstract


The growing demand for energy raises concernsin social, economic and environmental fields. Economicgrowth, especially in developing countries, indicates strongprojected growth in energy consumption in these countries.The large energy demand required in buildings attractsattention and shows the need for greater regulation.Measures to promote energy conservation as certificationand labeling of energy efficiency as a way of establishingperformance criteria, both at the project design and duringits operation, are important mechanisms in this regard. Theprogram for the establishment of Technical Requirementsfor Quality proposed by the Brazilian government, appliedvoluntarily to buildings, can provide large gains to themarket, the environment, and society. This paper discussesthese mechanisms in favor of policies for efficient energy useand compare similar policies from other countries as well aspotential gains in terms of energy consumption and reducedCO 2.Index Terms ⎯  Buildings, energy efficiency, labeling.
