ESTUDO DO POTENCIAL DE GERAÇÃO DE ENERGIA ELÉTRICA A PARTIR DE RESÃDUOS DE PODA DE ÃRVORES URBANAS

Cristiane Lima Cortez, Suani Teixeira Coelho

Abstract

The use of urban pruning residues as an energy source introduces significant benefits as decentralized generation, reduced imports of fossil fuels and raising funds by carbon credits trading. The aim of this paper is to analyze the potential use of these residues to generate electricity through two technologies: steam cycle and anaerobic digestion. The methodology used is based on the estimated amount of urban pruning residues of the concession area of AES Eletropaulo, the result of a research and development project "Study of the Potential Use of Biomass Resulting from Pruning and Removal of Trees in the Concession Area of AES Eletropaulo". Qualitative and quantitative studies were developed from the analysis of economic feasibility. It is hoped that the results presented collaborate to urban pruning residues are used for power generation, besides to incentive the creationof public policies to encourage this practice.

Index Terms - Anaerobic digestion, Biomass, Electrical energy, Solid residues, Steam cycle.
