CARACTERIZAÇÃO DA QUALIDADE DA ÃGUA DO AÇUDE DE CARIRA - CARIRA/SE

Abstract

Water is an indispensable resource for life and it is essential to maintain the environmental balance. However, the reality of its abuse and misuse makes the environmental situation becomes increasingly precarious. In the weir of Carira, in Sergipe state, the situation issimilar to the reality of other water bodies in Brazil. Around 46,000 L.day-1sewage in natura are dumped in this dam. Thus, the objective of this study is to evaluate the water quality of this reservoir, using physical, chemical and biological parameters. The methodology was the analysis of the parameters according to APHA (1998). The results show that the reservoir water is unfit for bathing, drinking and irrigation, due to large amount of fecal and high salinity, indicating the need for urgent action to recover the dam and providing a direction for water management.
