BASES FISIOPATOLÓGICAS DA DOENÇA DE WHIPPLE– RELATO DE UM CASO

Abstract

Whipple's disease is a rare chronic systemic disease caused by Gram-positive bacillus Tropheryma Whippleii. It mainly affects the small intestine and is prone to relapses. In this study, the course will be reported and disease progression in the last seven years in a patient of 58 years old after the confirmation by duodenal biopsy has confirmed the presence of macrophages staining for Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS). In February 2006 after the obtained results, the patient underwent treatment with antibiotics that go beyond the barrier of at least one year. He presented two relapses in the period 2006 to 2011, and decreased cognitive functioning caused by two ischemic strokes and sudden mood changes that indicate central nervous system.
