Abstract

The human papilloma virus (HPV) maybehave more like a co--carcinogen for cancer of the mouthto the side of smoking,, drinking and sun radiation.. Theobjective of this study is that HPV in oral mucosa ofsmokers and formersmokers by Pap smear(cytology)withthe use of brush--type cytobrush.. Until this phase of thestudy,, no patient had lesions in the oral mucosa and nosample was positive for HPV.. Thus according to theliterature on virus detection in healthy oral mucosasuggests that not all HPV infection,, necessarily leads tocarcinogenesis due to the immune status of eachindividual,, and thisfact isimportant to identify the factorsthat lead to a transformation malignant..
