The developed article explores the meditation´s idea, its techniques, types, psychological and theological sources, as well as its presence in different western cultures. It also explores the similarities among the different types discussed and an overview of its potential and presence nowadays. The Indian schools of meditation (Pranayama technique), Buddhism Meditation (Vipassana technique), the classical Jewish Meditation, Sufi meditation and the Taoistic Meditation (Tai Chi Technique) are explored and compared. Classic books on the theme were the main source of research, as well asinternet articles were used. It was found that all the mentioned schools of meditation may have come from the same source due to its historical and technical similarities, as well as the theological background and similar goals. Some of the studies techniques may appear different, but the final goal is usually the same.
