TEOR DE MERCÚRIO EM PEIXES DA ORDEM DOS GYMNOTIFORMES COLETADOS NA RESERVA AMBIENTAL DE MAMIRAUÁ-TEFÉ

Abstract


The mercury contamination in fish is a global
concern for public health. The risk is higher for people
whose per capita consumption is high. Several studies point
to the presence of mercury in fish in the Amazon. In the
mercury is used to refine the gold mines as well as occurring naturally. The aim of this study was to determine mercury levels considered normal in fish in the Amazon. The species studied was of the order Gymnotiformes, collected in the environmental reserve Mamirauá-AM-Tefé one of the most preserved of the Amazon. 50 specimens were collected with the aid of network, 0.1 g of muscle tissue was frozen for direct analysis of Hg by amalgamation with gold trap. The value found was 0.12 ± 0.07 mg/kg ranging from 0.02 to 0.30 mg/kg, below the maximum of 0.5 mg/kg recommended by Brazilian legislation.
