DIAGNÓSTICO DE IMPACTOS AMBIENTAIS NO RIO GUAÚ - ITANHAÉM

Abstract

Nowadays there is a widespread concern aboutwater pollution, which most of time receive considerablequantities of sewage. The aim of this work consisted onsurveying the possible environmental impact in the riverGuaú – São Paulo State -, caused by urban occupation andthe inadequate disposal of domestic wastewater. Themethodology has been based on the analyses of the water.Besides, the use of geo-reference, as an important tool toevaluate the region's urban occupation have been tested.The water analysis showed that the river is directly affectedby the lack of collection and treatment of domestic waste.Orbital data showed that the urban occupation of river'ssurrounding has not been significant. So, as to minimize theexisting environmental impact on the place, it is important toprovide a collection system and treatment of wastewaterthroughout the city in order to guarantee the environmentalquality of the area.
