THE IMPORTANCE OF CONSTRUCTION DELAY CONTROL SYSTEM ON ECONOMICAL ASPECTS OF A SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Abstract

Construction delay is one of the major defectiveissues in construction projects. In order to succeedmanaging the competing constraints (time, cost, quality andenvironment) project’s stakeholders need an efficientconstruction delays control system for economicsustainability of construction industry. Construction delayguidelines and procedures are related to most of the projectmanagement knowledge areas comprising integration,scope, time, cost, quality, risk, procurement, environmental,financial, claim and safety management (PMBOK andConstruction Extension-2008).The current paper presents asummary state-of-the-art analysis and the first results of anongoing research on main causes and effects ofconstruction-delay in Iranian industries. Moreover, acomparing analysis of the Iranian contract conditions withFédération Internationale des Ingénieurs-Conseils (FIDIC-1999) is developed aiming at to enhance the projects'economical performance and therefore contribute to asustainable construction industry.
