Abstract

Zeolite synthesized from coal fly ash (ZC-6) wasused as adsorbent to remove reactive black 5 (RB 5) dyefrom aqueous solutions. The effects of contact time andinitial concentration were investigated on the adsorptionprocess. The isotherm adsorption data fit accordingly to theLangmuir model. The experimental results showed a highpercentage removal of 47.7 to 88.1% for RB 5 dye ontoZC-6. The high percentage removal revealed that thiszeolitic material could potentially be used as adsorbents inremoval of reactive azo dye from textile wastewater.Index Terms ⎯ Adsorbent, dye, fly ash, reactive black 5,zeolite.
