Abstract

Felder e Silverman formulated a learning stylemodel designed to capture the most important learningstyle differences among engineering students. Then a 44-question instrument (ILS – Index of learning style) wascreated by Felder e Soloman to assess preferences on thefour dimensions of the model. Due the large use of thistheory, response data for the ILS have been collected in anumber of studies (in several languages). As in othercountries, some researches were also conducted tomeasure the Brazilian version of this questionnaire andthe results were unsatisfactory. So, Felder haveanalyzed the learning style profiles reported in differentstudies and shown that some evaluation criteria, likeCronbach’s alpha, were inadequate. Thus, based onFelder’s considerations this paper suggests a review of thefound results in Brazilian context to better assess thereliability and validity of this instrument.
