CARACTERIZAÇÃO FÍSICO-QUÍMICA DO RIO MURUCUPI APÓS VAZAMENTO DE LAMA VERMELHA: ÁREA INDUSTRIAL DE BARCARENA-PA
Abstract
The conditions of the river Murucupi, Barcarena-PA,has been evaluated in relation to the physico-chemicalparameters after accident on April 27, 2009 where the redmud originated from the company Alunorte was dumped intoriver. We analyzed temperature, dissolved oxygen, turbidity,pH, salinity and conductivity. According to CONAMAResolution 357/05 of the OD (2.91 ± 0.75 mg/L) was belowthe resolution at all points evaluated ranging from 1.66 to4.95 mg/L indicating the probable cause of mortality of fish.Dissolved oxygen is an extremely important variable, it isnecessary for respiration of most organisms that inhabit theaquatic environment. Turbidity (UNT 287.69 ± 35.80) wasabove the resolution at all points analyzed ranging from181.00 to 317.40 UNT. The increase in turbidity was causedby the presence of red mud and visually confirmed byfiltration of river water.Index Terms - Red mud, water contamination, physicochemicalparameters.
